Prism: Interdisciplinary Lab for 3d Research in the Arts and Science
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: The work of the PRISM lab draws upon advances in data acquisition techniques, computer modeling and visualization, and rapid prototyping technologies. In addition, the lab has made significant strides in developing 3D “digital libraries” and unique immersive interactive display techniques. PRISM research continues to exploit the unique virtual space of the computer to pre-visualize and evaluate 3D form, to enable comparative analyses of large quantities of 3D data, and to produce objects impossible to create with the human hand. The work of the lab—one outpost on the digital frontier—has become a touchstone regarding an approach to technology that is predicated upon interdisciplinary research and "rapid responses" to the needs of a culture—be they technical, scientific, or artistic.

The Laboratory for Creative Arts & Technologies (LCAT) is a new interdisciplinary research center that explores the intersections of creativity, technology and human expression. A part of LSU’s Center for Computation & Technology, the lab has become the state’s focal point for research and creative activity in digital media, computer music, scientific visualization and human-computer interface.
متن کاملMapping the audit traces of interdisciplinary collaboration: bridging and blending between choreography and cognitive science
Two long-term sci-art research projects are described and positioned in the broader conceptual landscape of interdisciplinary collaboration. Both projects were aimed at understanding and augmenting choreographic decision-making and both were grounded in research conducted within a leading contemporary dance company. In each case, the work drew upon methods and theory from the cognitive sciences...
متن کاملEffect of Magnetic Field and a Mode-I Crack 3D-Problem in Micropolar Thermoelastic Cubic Medium Possessing Under Three Theories
A model of the equations of two dimensional problems in a half space, whose surface in free of micropolar thermoelastic medium possesses cubic symmetry as a result of a Mode-I Crack is studied. There acts an initial magnetic field parallel to the plane boundary of the half- space. The crack is subjected to prescribed temperature and stress distribution. The formulation in the context of the Lor...
متن کاملCONFESSIONS OF COMPUTER SCIENTISTS WORKING IN THE ARTS: A tale of two techies
Interdisciplinary research is increasingly being encouraged in academia, at least in theory. However, it is still difficult to become established because much funding continues to be directed at individual disciplines and universities are still organized into compartmentalized departments. In this paper we present some experiences of computer science interacting with the arts. The authors used ...
متن کاملPalaeolithic archaeology and 3D visualisation technology: Recent developments
This paper presents computer-aided lithic analysis conducted in the context of an interdisciplinary research framework combining computer science and archaeology – the Partnership for Research in Stereo Modeling (PRISM), at Arizona State University. Pilot projects conducted as part of PRISM serve to find real-world applications to the tridimensional visualization technology developed as part of...
